As for those who believe and do good deeds (that is, those who believe in the Qur’ān that has been revealed upon Muḥammad, and that is indeed the truth from their Lord), He will forgive them for their evil deeds and improve their condition in this world and the hereafter.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
But those who have faith and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down to Muhammad—and it is the truth from their Lord—He shall absolve them of their misdeeds and set right their affairs.Ali Quli Qarai
And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muḥammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.Saheeh International
This is so because the disbelievers followed falsehood while the believers followed the truth from their Lord. This is how Allāh sets forth examples for people.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
That is because the faithless follow falsehood, and the faithful follow the truth from their Lord. That is how Allah draws comparisons for mankind.Ali Quli Qarai
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allāh present to the people their comparisons.Saheeh International
When and if you meet in a battle imposedupon you by those who disbelieve, then smite their necks until you have overcome them. Once you have overcome them, do not kill them; instead, make them prisoners. And after you have madethem prisoners, you can either set them free as a favour or let them ransom themselves until the war has ended. That is the law. If Allāh had pleased, He would certainly have exacted what is due from them (i.e., theaggressive unbelievers); instead, He ordered youto face them in the battle so that He may test some of you by means of the others. As for those slain in the way of Allāh, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish;S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
When you meet the faithless in battle, strike their necks. When you have thoroughly decimated them, bind the captives firmly. Thereafter either oblige them [by setting them free] or take ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. That [is Allah’s ordinance]. Had Allah wished He could have taken vengeance on them, but that He may test some of you by means of others. As for those who were slain in the way of Allah, He will not let their works go fruitless.Ali Quli Qarai
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.Saheeh International

Have they not travelled around the world so that they may see how the end was of those who disbelieved before them: Allāh brought down destruction upon them; the present unbelievers shall have the like of it.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Have they not travelled through the land so that they may observe how was the fate of those who were before them? Allah destroyed them, and a similar [fate] awaits these faithless.Ali Quli Qarai
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allāh destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable.Saheeh International

Therefore, Allāh shall surely admit those who believe and do good deeds into the Gardens in which rivers flow; but as for those who disbelieve, they will enjoy themselves in this world and eat as the animals eat, but their final abode is the Fire.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Indeed Allah will admit those who have faith and do righteous deeds into gardens with streams running in them. As for the faithless, they enjoy and eat like the cattle do, and the Fire will be their [final] abode.Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, Allāh will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.Saheeh International

O Muḥammad, do not be distressed by the power of the Meccans; there have been many towns more powerful than the people of your town (which drove you out) that We destroyed them, and they had no protector.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
How many a town We have destroyed which was more powerful than your town which expelled you, and they had no helper.Ali Quli Qarai
And how many a city was stronger than your city [i.e., Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.Saheeh International
What! Can he who has a clear argument from his Lord be like a person whose evil deeds are presented to him in a more acceptable manner and those who follow their desires?S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Is he who stands on a manifest proof from his Lord like those to whom the evil of their conduct is made to seem decorous and who follow their desires?Ali Quli Qarai
So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?Saheeh International

The example of the Paradise that has been promised to those who are pious is a place thathas rivers of water whose taste or colour does not alter, rivers of milk whose taste does not change, rivers of drinks that are delicious for those who shall drink, rivers of pure honey, and in it they shall have all kinds of fruits, and forgiveness from their Lord. Can the people of Paradise be like one who is to abide in the Fire, wherein they shall be made to drink boiling water so that it will render their bowels asunder? No, of course not.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
A description of the paradise promised to the Godwary: therein are streams of unstaling water and streams of milk unchanging in flavour, and streams of wine delicious to the drinkers, and streams of purified honey; there will be every kind of fruit in it for them, and forgiveness from their Lord. [Are such ones] like those who abide in the Fire and are given to drink boiling water which cuts up their bowels?Ali Quli Qarai

There are those who seek to listen to you until when they depart from you, they say to those who have been given knowledge: “What was it that he said just now?” These are the people whose hearts Allāh has sealed, and they follow their desires.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
There are some among them who prick up their ears at you. But when they go out from your presence, they say to those who have been given knowledge, ‘What did he say just now?’ They are the ones on whose hearts Allah has set a seal, and they follow their own desires.Ali Quli Qarai
And among them, [O Muḥammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allāh has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires.Saheeh International
Do they wait but for the hour ofchastisement to come upon them suddenly? Its signs have already come upon them, so how shall they remember it when it comes upon them?S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Do they await anything except that the Hour should overtake them suddenly? Its portents have already come. When it overtakes them of what avail will the admonitions they were given?Ali Quli Qarai
Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then how [i.e., what good] to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?Saheeh International
So know that there is no god but Allāh; and ask, O Muḥammad, protection for theenemies’ reaction to your actions, and also for the believing men and believing women. Verily, Allāh knows the place of your returning and the place of your abiding in the hereafter.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Know that there is no god except Allah, and plead [to Allah] for forgiveness of your sin and for the faithful, men and women. Allah knows your itinerary and your [final] abode.Ali Quli Qarai
So know, [O Muḥammad], that there is no deity except Allāh and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allāh knows of your movement and your resting place.Saheeh International
Those who believe say, “Why has not a new chapter been revealed?” But when a decisive chapter is revealed, and fighting is mentioned therein, the faithful ones accept it, but you will see the hypocrites in whose hearts is a disease looking at you with the look of one who is overcome by death—that is very fitting for them!S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
The faithful say, ‘If only a surah were sent down!’ But when a conclusive surah is sent down and war is mentioned in it, you see those in whose hearts is a sickness looking upon you with the look of someone fainting at death. So woe to them!Ali Quli Qarai
Those who believe say, "Why has a sūrah not been sent down?" So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?Saheeh International

Verily, those who apostate and renounceIslam after the true guidance had become manifest for them do so because Satan deceived them by presenting the evil as good to them and has helped them.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Indeed those who turned their backs after the guidance had become clear to them, it was Satan who had seduced them, and he had given them [far-flung] hopes.Ali Quli Qarai
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.Saheeh International
This impact of Satan onthem is reflected by them saying to those who hate what Allāh has revealed: “We shall obey you in some of the issues;” but, of course, Allāh knows their hidden thoughts.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
That is because they said to those who loathed what Allah had sent down: ‘We shall obey you in some matters,’ and Allah knows their secret dealings.Ali Quli Qarai
That is because they said to those who disliked what Allāh sent down, "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allāh knows what they conceal.Saheeh International

Should He ask it from you and press you, you will be stingy, and He will expose your spite.Ali Quli Qarai
If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your hatred [i.e., unwillingness].Saheeh International
There! You are the ones who are called to spend some of yourwealth in the way of Allāh, but still, some of you are niggardly. And whosoever is niggardly, he is actually being niggardly against himself since the benefit of charity goes back to the donor. Indeed Allāh is Free from need, and you are the needy ones. And if you turn away from the true faith, He will replace other people in place of you, and they will not be like you—they will have faith, righteousness, and give charity.S. M. Rizvi (Explanatory)
Ah! There you are, being invited to spend in the way of Allah; yet among you there are those who are stingy; and whoever is stingy is stingy only to himself. Allah is the All-sufficient, and you are all-needy, and if you turn away He will replace you with another people, and they will not be like you.Ali Quli Qarai
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allāh - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allāh is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away [i.e., refuse], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.Saheeh International
